Our Story
A legal practice shaped around startup realities
Founded in Kuala Lumpur, Keystrum exists to give early-stage companies access to the kind of legal counsel usually reserved for much larger organisations.
Who We Are
Built by lawyers who work with founders, not just for them
Keystrum was established to address a straightforward gap: most Malaysian startups struggle to access legal services that are genuinely aligned with their pace and budget. Traditional commercial law firms are structured around retainers, hourly billing, and large transaction work — which makes them a poor fit for founders who need clear, scoped advice at an early stage.
Our practice is built differently. We focus exclusively on company formation, venture financing, and intellectual property work for startups. This narrow focus lets us develop deep familiarity with the situations founders face, and deliver advice that is both legally sound and practically useful.
We work from our office in Damansara Heights, where we consult with founders ranging from those just beginning to think about incorporation, to those preparing for Series A or bringing on their first institutional investor.
Our mission is straightforward: help Malaysian startups build on solid legal foundations from the start, so that structural issues don't become obstacles later.
Our Values
-
Transparency in scope and cost
We quote clearly before starting, so there are no surprises in billing or deliverables.
-
Practical, plain-language advice
Legal advice should be usable. We explain what matters and why in terms founders can act on.
-
Focus over generalism
We do startup law well because it's all we do. We don't spread our attention across unrelated areas of practice.
-
Respect for founders' time
We move at a pace that works for startups, not for the administrative rhythms of large firms.

Our work is shaped by current SSM requirements, SC regulations, and applicable provisions of the Companies Act 2016. We track regulatory changes that affect startups.
Accessible Communication
Legal documents come with plain-language explanations. We're available for follow-up questions throughout and after each engagement.
Our Context
Legal work built around the Malaysian startup ecosystem
Malaysia's startup environment has grown considerably over the past decade — with an expanding pool of venture capital, angel investors, and early-stage accelerators operating from Kuala Lumpur and the broader Klang Valley. Keystrum's work sits at the intersection of this ecosystem and the legal requirements that underpin it.
Company formation under the Companies Act 2016, fundraising under the Capital Markets and Services Act 2007, and intellectual property protection under the Intellectual Property Corporation of Malaysia framework — these are the legal contexts in which our clients operate. Our team maintains working knowledge of how these frameworks apply to early-stage companies specifically, rather than treating them as extensions of large-company commercial law.
Founders based in Damansara Heights, Bangsar South, KL Sentral, Petaling Jaya, and throughout greater KL are welcome to visit our office or engage with us remotely. We work with founders across a range of sectors including technology, SaaS, digital services, health technology, and consumer products.
